BAM sound designs 2011 FMX Festival Promo. Popcorn everywhere!
July 8, 2011 brian

BAM Sound Designer Philip von During was summoned by Swiss friends Roman Kaelin (Formic), Florian Wittman (Formic), and Falko Paeper to sound design their latest animation creation. The project called “A Maize” depicts the city of Stuttgart overcome by massive popcorn kernels. The short film was created for the 2011 FMX festival in Germany as the promotional trailer. The 3 day festival promotes Visual Effects, Animation and Digital Postproduction and was held in May.

Philip used a combination of actual popcorn recordings mixed in with various other sound design elements to create the explosions of giant 15 foot popcorn kernels, and used Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture to embellish the surrealism of the film.
