TeamWorks Media Produces Big Ten Men’s Basketball PSA ‘Welcome to the Big Stage’ Features Musical Artist Talib Kweli

TeamWorks Media, a Chicago-based, full-service creative media company specializing in sports and entertainment, produced a Big Ten Conference men’s basketball public service announcement featuring musical artist Talib Kweli. The 30-second spot features Kweli performing an original track he composed for the Big Ten titled “Welcome to the Big Stage.” The PSA will premiere during the Fiesta and Orange Bowl telecasts and will air on CBS and ESPN Networks during conference games beginning in January.

The spot highlights the fast-paced style of play, intense competition and team spirit of Big Ten men’s basketball through the style of one of music’s most talented lyricists.

The PSA was shot in high-definition in a green screen studio, enabling Kweli to appear in a 360-degree animated environment. Kweli performs on stage at a crowded underground show surrounded by monitors displaying highlights from Big Ten games.  Brooklyn-born Talib Kweli is known as socially conscious rapper who enjoys the rare combination of commercial success and significant critical acclaim. Considered one of the most intelligent lyricists in contemporary music today, Kweli has had a string of albums including A Beautiful Struggle (2004) and his most recent release Right About Now (2005).

The PSA has also been customized into 11 different Big Ten school-specific versions to showcase game footage from each team. The PSA will air during all televised Big Ten games nationally and regionally, as well as in-arena during games.

The PSA is part of a two-year comprehensive marketing and promotional campaign with the theme “Welcome to the Big Stage” featuring Kweli. TeamWorks Media’s Mike Sear served as executive producer and Erik Rozentals as producer of the PSA. For more information visit www.bigten.org
